• WHAT: 5-round single-round Rapid Event (Swiss), using a 25 min + 5 sec time control.

• REQUIREMENTS: Players must be born after Jan 1, 2007

• SECTIONS: U8 U10 U12 U14 U16 U18

• RATED: CFC Quick Rated

• TIEBREAK RULES:  1) Direct encounter 2) Buchholz 3) Number of games won (not including forfeits) 4) Sum of the rating of opponent

• REGISTRATION: On-line registration ends  May 17h at 10:00 am. No on-site registration will be accepted.

• ENTRY FEE:  $40/ entry by May 8th; regular : $50

• QUALIFICATION: For players who scored 2.5 points qualify for CYCC 2025; 

• NOTES: No requested bye points in this event. Clocks and chess set are provided. By signing up, you permit Chess4win the ability to take and use photos from the tournament on its social media. If you would not like your photo used, please email us at chess4winofficial@gmail.com.

WITHDRAW POLICY:

• Pre-registered and pre-paid participants who withdraw at least 3 days before the event start date are eligible for a refund via EMT, subject to a $5 handling fee deducted from the entry fee. In all other cases, the full credit will be retained for use in future events.  

• All emergencies should go through  chess4winofficial@gmail.com  for communications regarding withdrawal, travel delays, or other late-breaking information.

• Time Control: 60 minutes + 30 seconds a move 

• Format: 5 Rounds Swiss (CFC regular rated)

• Section: Open(1900+); U1900; U1500

• Schedule: 

• Round 1: Saturday, May 31, 10 am

• Round 2: Saturday, May 31, 2 pm

• Round 3: Saturday, May 31, 6 pm

• Round 4: Sunday, June 1, 11 am

• Round 5: Sunday, June 1, 3 pm

• The default forfeit time for any game is 30 min

• Entry Fees: $80 Early Bird (before May 18th); $100 Regular; Free entry for players with a CFC regular rating over 2200. Players aged 60 and above with a CFC rating of 1600 or higher are also eligible for free entry. Limited to 10 spots.

• Playing up: Add $20 if playing up. A player must be within 100 points of the rating floor for the section they wish to play up in.

• Byes: Single half point bye in rounds 1-4 if requested before or during the tournament; zero points byes are allowed for round 5; All bye requests must be emailed to chess4winofficial@gmail.com

• Prizes:$300-$200-$100 for top 3 highest scores in O1900; $250 - $150 for top 2 highest scores in U1900 and U1500 sections.(Prize money is split between winners in case of a tie. ) 

• Special Bonus Prize:
  Players who participate in both the Chess4win May Markham Open and Chess4win June Markham Open will accumulate points across the two tournaments. The Top 3 overall scorers (ties allowed; prize will be shared if tied) will share a $1,000 bonus prize pool(Players are encouraged to register for both tournaments. Free entry players are not eligible for this special prize.):

• Special notes:  The organizer will supply all chess pieces, chess boards, and clocks.; In case of equality of points the ranking will be decided by tie-break using  1) Direct encounter 2) Buchholz 3) Number of games won (not including forfeits) 4) sum of the rating of opponent 

• Cancellation Fees: A $10 processing fee will be applied for any cancellation prior to May 25th. After May 25th, no refunds will be given.

Rating: Sections will be determined using the highest of CFC or FIDE rating. All sections will be CFC rated. O1900 and U1900 will also be FIDE rated.

Time Control: 90 minutes + 30 seconds a move

Format: 5 Rounds Swiss 

Section: O1900; U1900; U1500

Schedule:  

Round 1: Friday, June 27th, 6:30 pm

Round 2: Saturday, June 28th, 10:00 am

Round 3: Saturday, June 28th, 4:00 pm

Round 4: Sunday,  June 29th , 10:00 am

Round 5: Sunday,  June 29th, 4:00 pm

The default forfeit time for any game is 30 min

Entry Fees: $90 before May 18th; $110 before June 1st; Regular is $130/entry.  Free entry for players with a CFC regular rating over 2200 or FIDE  regular rating over 2000. Players aged 60 and above with a CFC rating of 1600 or higher are also eligible for free entry. Limited to 10 spots.

Playing up: Add $20 if playing up. A player must be within 100 points of the rating floor for the section they wish to play up in.

Prizes: 

• O1900:$300-$200-$100 Plus Championship Trophy and Medals

• U1900: $250-$100 Plus Championship Trophy and Medals

• U1500: $250-$150 Plus Championship Trophy and Medals

• Prize money is split between winners in case of a tie.

Players who participate in both the Chess4win May Markham Open and Chess4win June Markham Open will accumulate points across the two tournaments.
